MX vs ATV Unleashed is a game all about style and freedom. If you happen to dislike any given song (but why on Earth would you?), you can disable them in the jukebox setting. If that isn’t a statement of the era, I don’t know what is. The game’s soundtrack is a moment in time, with the likes of Powerman 5000, Papa Roach, and Nickelback occupying the selection.

But I imagine the textures were not designed for that. The game still looks good, and runs above 60fps, but running at my native resolution would look so much better. Sadly though, the resolution does not go beyond 1280×1024. MX vs ATV Unleashed works surprisingly well, as I’m able to use my DualShock 4 without any finagling. And it is largely unchanged, save for it being able to run on modern systems. The thing to address first and foremost is that this game did in fact come out 9 years ago.

This re-published game, appearing on Steam for the very first time gives a glimpse back in time with a world where games were easy to play, fun, and full of crazy ideas. This release sees the light of day thanks to new publisher, Nordic Games taking over for the defunct THQ. With the release of MX vs ATV Unleashed on Steam last week, it seemingly feels like it’s 2006 again. “What’s old is new again”, or so they say.
